NC here. Great Place to Visit.

I am white so I probably am not as aware of the racism as others, but it seems to be worse than California where I am from. Not a lot though.

Asheville is nice, so is Raleigh

Charleston, SC is really pretty. There is racism everywhere, so don’t let that sway your decision. There is less in NC/SC than would be in other states.

The Carolinas are quite beautiful for the most part. I’m not a huge fan of western South Carolina, but the coast is great. All of NC is beautiful from the mountains to the coast. I would think both are great places to live. SC is on the up and up, and both are quite peaceful. Plenty of space but access to enough city type attractions. In NC I would recommend the whole state, the mountains are awesome, and the coast is much different than a lot of other coasts around the country. And I would suspect the racism is no different than anywhere else.

I hated North Carolina and moved to Tennessee. N.C. is racist, and they tax everything there, and have the skinniest roads. Winter time is a mess if it snows.
Now S.C. is a good vacation State fishing is the best. Lake Wateree for Catfish.

Asheville N.C is one of the best places to live in the Carolina’s, and their school systems pretty good.

I have driven through Western North Carolina (aka Asheville area) and I thought it was some of the most beautiful country I have seen. But I also love the lowcountry area of Beaufort and I love the touristy Myrtle Beach and all the shopping. I plan to retire in South Carolina but if someone told me I had to settle for Asheville N.C. I wouldn’t scoff too bad. I think the people are guarded but friendly. And racism is everywhere unfortunately. All we can do is choose not to be a part of it.

Racism has been banned in all kinds of societies and nations, but it is being in the heart and is the matter of behaviour and culture, it will take some time to eradicate racism. Carolina is not an exceptional case.
