Well, I live in NC and just love it. Here you can go to the beaches, then we have so many beautiful lakes across the state, like lake Lure. In Asheville, you can go to Biltmore Castle, its gardens and winery. The mountains in Blue Ridge Park , close to VA, have such wonderful views.
In SC I suggest go to Myrtle Beach, like the other guy said and Charleston, very, very nice beach city too.
Yes, it is worth to visiting.

N.C. has nice mountains in the west and Wilmington and the Islands are nice in the east. S.C. has Myrtle Beach is if fun and crowded in the summer. Mostly for younger, families and golfer. Charleston draws an affluamt tourist crowd-has been ranked as a top 5 destination in US for past several years- Very historic, great beaches and many sites.

Check the aaa.com site. It has great lists of all tourists attractions in every state. That is quite a long drive from NY.
How about Niagara Falls.
